Iowa Pacific Holdings

IPH was formed in March 2001 to acquire railroads and create rail-related businesses.

Arizona Eastern Ry.

What is now the AZER was chartered as the Gila Valley Globe and Northern Railway (GVGN) in 1885. Before completion to Globe in 1899, the GVGN came under the control of the Arizona Eastern Railroad (AE). The AE was leased by the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) in 1905 and merged into the SP system in 1924. SP sold the Bowie – Miami line to Kyle Railroad in 1988. Kyle was purchased by shortline holding company StatesRail in 1995. StatesRail was purchased by RailAmerica (RA) in 2001. RA sold the AZER to Permian Basin Railways on December 9, 2004.  It was sold to Genesee & Wyoming on September 1, 2011.

39, Class S-10, was built by Baldwin in September 1917, #46313.  It was rebuilt at Yuma on March 10, 1927, and transferred as Southern Pacific 1298 in January 1928.  It retired on October 2, 1957, at West Oakland and donated to Santa Cruz, CA, on March 2. 1953.

23, SW9, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1951, #15607, FN 6342-2, as Anaconda Copper Co 23.  It became Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co 23 in 1977 and sold as AZER 23 in 1988.  It was sold to Western Rail Inc as WRIX 23 and leased to Frontier Rail Corp.

108, SD90MAC was built by Electro-Motive in November 1999, #986927-9, FN 986927-9, as CIT Financial Group CEFX 108.  It was leased as AZER 108 in 2009 and leased to Texas & New Mexico RR 108 in 2015.

1751, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1955, #19968, #FN 5367-4, as Texas & New Orleans 420, Class DF-604.  It was renumbered Southern Pacific 3432, Class EF418-4, in 1966 and rebuilt as 3312, Class EF418E-1, in 1970.  It was sold as AZER 1751 in 1988 and transferred as San Joaquin Valley RR 1751.  It was sold as Great Smoky Mountain RR 1751.

1753, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1954, #19463, FN 5323-3, as T&NO 402, Class DF-600.  It became SP 3402, Class EF418-1, and rebuilt on June 8, 1972, as 3355, Class EF418E-2.  It was sold as AZER 1753 in 1988.

1754, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1954, #19477, FN 5334-6, as T&NO 245, Class DF-601 .  The steam generator was removed in 1959.  It was renumbered SP 3416, Class EF418-2, in 1955 and rebuilt on June 22, 1972, as 3357, Class EF418E-2.  It was sold as AZER 1754 in 1988 and transferred as SJVR 1754.  It was sold as San Pedro & Southwestern 901 in 2004 and transferred as Coos Bay Rail Link 901 in May 2014.  It was sold as Scoular Co in July 2015 as SCOX 901.

1755, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in March 1956, #21359, FN 5436-41, as SP 5666, Class DF-607.  It was renumbered 3499, Class EF418-6, in 1966 and rebuilt as 3397, Class EF418E-2, in 1974.   It was sold as AZER 1755 in 1988 and transferred as SJVR 1755.  It was sold as GSMR 1755.

2039, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1961, #26308, FN 7595-5, as St Louis South-Western 804, Class Z20.  It was renumbered 4034, Class EF420C-1, in 1966 and rebuilt as 4143, Class EF420-S02, in 1976.  It was sold as Kyle RR 2039 and later transferred as SPSW 2039.  It was sold as AZER 2039.

2044, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1962, #27353, FN 5634-9, as Southern Pacific 7232, Class DF-617.  It was renumbered 4082, Class EF420-1, in 1966 and rebuilt as 4112. Class EF420-R02, in 1977 and sold as AZER 2044.  It was transferred as SPSW 2044 in 2003 and returned as AZER 2044.

2045, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1961, #26311, FN 7595-8, as SSW 807, Class Z20.  It was renumbered 4037, Class EF420C-1, in 1966 and rebuilt as 4137, Class EF420-S01, in 1974.  It was sold as AZER 2045.

2046, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1961, #26312, FN 7595-9, as SSW 808, Class Z20.  It was renumbered 4038, Class EF420C-1, in 1966 and rebuilt as 4142, Class EF420-S02, in 1976.  It was sold as AZER 2046.

2050, GP20u, was built by Electro-Motive in July 1960, #25592, FN 7584-20, as Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 1119, Class 1100.  It was renumbered 3119, Class 3100, in 1970 and rebuilt at San Bernardino on July 2, 1979, as 3019, Class 3000.  It was sold as Toledo Peoria & Western 3019 in February 1989 and renumbered 2012 in 1991. It was rebuilt as 2050 in 1997 and sold as AZER 2050.  It was sold to Commonwealth Ry as CWRY 2090 in 2012.

2054, GP20u, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1960,  #25577, FN 7584-5, as AT&SF 1104, Class 1100, and became 3104, Class 3100, in 1970. It was rebuilt in November 1980 to 3004, Class 3000, and was sold to TP&W as 3004 on February 16, 1989, and was renumbered 2005 in 1991.  It was rebuilt as 2054 in 1997 and sold as AZER 2054.  It was sold as CWRY 2091 in 2012.

2170, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1960, 25703, FN 7583-16, as Great Northern 2015, Class GP-20.  It became Burlington Northern 2015, Class GP-20, in 1970, and retired in August 1985.  It was sold to Smith Brothers in October 1985 and then as Kyle 2170.  It was later sold as AZER 2170.

2501, GP35, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1963, #28404, FN 7662-6, as Western Pacific 3006, Class RS-65.  It was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen in 1980 and became Union Pacific 787 on January 19, 1984.  It was retired on January 1, 1993, and sold to Kyle Railways as San Joaquin Valley RR 2501.  It was transferred as AZER 2501 in 2001.  It was sold to Watco Co as WAMX 3536.

2502, GP35, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1965, #30219, FN 7790-3, as WP 3015, Class RS-65.  It became UP 794 on April 16, 1984, and was retired on January 1, 1993.  It was sold to Kyle in April 1993 as SJVR 2502.  It was transferred as AZER 2502 in 2001.  It was sold as WAMX 3537.

2503, GP35, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1965, #30221, FN 7790-5, as WP 3017, Class RS-65.  It became UP 795 on March 23, 1984, and retired on January 1, 1993.  it was sold to Kyle in April 1993 as AZER 2503.  It was sold as WAMX 3538.

3815, GP38, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1966, #32665, FN 7946-6, as Maine Central RR 256, Class DRS-4.  It was sold as Helm Leasing Corp 256 and renumbered 3614.  It was sold as Missouri & Northern Arkansas RR 5556 and transferred as Salt Lake Southern RR 5556.  It was renumbered and transferred as AZER 3815 and transferred as Central Oregon & Pacific 3815.  It was transferred as Kiamichi RR 3815.  It was sold to Bro-Tex International Metals in October 2011.

M-55, Model 55, Brill in 1930, #22880, as Sperry Rail Service 116.  It was renumbered 121 in June 1935 and sold as Remington Arms 121 in June 1953.  It was sold as Valley RR M-55 and sold to Edwards Railway Motor Co.  It was sold as Black River & Western M-55 in 2003 and leased as Arizona Eastern RR M-55 between October 2005 until July 2006. 

510 "Copper Spike" was built by Budd in 1954 at Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 510.  It was sold as Auto-Train Corp 522 in 1971 and sold to Delaware Otsego in December 1981.  It was stored and sold to Holland America Tours Westours on December 30, 1985.  It was rebuilt as 510 "Chulitna" (800123) in 1987 and retired in March 2003.  It was sold to IPH in November 2007 as AZER 510 "Copper Spike" and transferred as San Luis & Rio Grande 510 "Sunset View".


Chicago Terminal RR

ILS 921, SW1500, was built by Electro-Motive in July 1972, #4608-85, FN 4608-85, as Southern Pacific 2675, Class ES415L-4.  It was sold as New Jersey Transit 503 and sold as Independent Locomotive Service 921 in 2007.  It is leased to CTRR.


Grenada Ry.

It is located in Mississippi and is approximately 187 miles long. It runs from Southaven to Canton, MS with a depot located in Grenada. A spur also runs to Bruce Junction.  It was a V&S Ry and later transferred to Iowa Pacific.


Massachusetts Coastal RR

2008, GP9u, was built by General Motors in April 1956, #A825, FN C195-21, as Canadian National 2020, Class GR-17f.  It was renumbered 4471 in 1956 and rebuilt in 1981 as 4002, Class GR-418a.  It retired on November 9, 1998, and sold to Progress Rail in 1999.  It was sold as Heart of Georgia RR 1209 in 2000 and resold as Massachusetts Coastal RR 2008 in 2007.

 


San Luis & Rio Grande RR

Rio Grande Scenic RR

On June 29, 2003, the UP sold the Walsenburg - Alamosa, Alamosa – Antonito and Alamosa – Derrick (just west of South Fork) to shortline railroad conglomerate RailAmerica (RA). The Derrick – Creede line, which had been out of service, was sold to the Denver and Rio Grande Historical Foundation as a tourist line. RA sold the SLRG to Permian Basin Railways on December 22, 2005.

18 was built by Alco in 1910, #46941, as Lake Superior & Ishpeming 18, Class SC-4.  It was sold to Marquette & Huron Mountain RR as 18, Class SC-4, and was then sold to Ishpeming Steel Co in January 1985.  It was then sold to Lake States Steam Association as 18 and then to Grand Canyon Ry as 18 in 1989.  It was sold as Mount Hood RR 18 in April 2007 and sold as SLRG 18 on January 31, 2008.

1744 was built by Baldwin in November 1901, #19671, as Southern Pacific 1744, Class M-6, a compound. It was simpled at Sacramento on January 6, 1912, and superheated at Sparks on July 16, 1919. It was retired on September 24, 1956, and donated to the National Society of the Sons of Utah Pioneers at Corinne, UT, on May 9, 1959. It then went to the Heber Creeper RR where it was operated until it was purchased by Fort Worth & Western in 1990. Rebuilding was begun but never completed until it was sold to the New Orleans & Gulf Coast in 1999. They had a crew rebuild the locomotive at 7th Street prior to shipping it to New Orleans in October 2000. It made several break-in trips before shipment.  Unfortunately the excursion traffic never materialized and the service ended soon after it started.  It was sold in 2007 as RGSRR 1744.

30, power car, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1957, #23191, FN 7547-B1, as Illinois Central 4108, E9B.  It was rebuilt in September 1981 as Alaska RR P-30 and rebuilt in March 2002 with 4 wheel trucks.  It was sold as SLRG 30 in July 2012.

202, SD40-2, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1980, #796297-35, FN 796297-35, as Union Pacific 3693, Class SD40-2.  It was retired on December 21, 2001, and sold as Balfour Beatty Rail 202.  It was transferred as San Luis & Rio Grande 202 in September 2008.  It was sold as Independent Locomotive Service 202 in May 2010 and renumbered 1344 in 2010.

227, slug, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1976, #757099-28, FN 757099-28, as National Ry Passenger Corp 227, F40PH.  It was sold to Rail Works and was rebuilt in 2009 as SLRG 227 in 2009 as a slug.

456, F40-3, was built by Electro-Motive in June 1981, #807050-18, FN 807050-18, as National Railway Passenger Corp 378, F40PH.  It was rebuilt as Canadian American RR 456 and sold as SLRG 456 in 2006.

1100, F3Au, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1946, #3596, FN E695A11, as Alton RR 810.  It became Gulf Mobile & Ohio 805-A in June 1947 and Illinois Central Gulf 1605 in 1972.  It was rebuilt at Paducah as Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority 1100 in 1977 and leased as Cape Cod RR 1100 in 1992 and sold to Mid Atlantic Rail Car in 1998.  It was leased as Indian Head Central RR 1100 in 1998 and leased as St. Marys RR 1100 in 2004.  It was rebuilt by Relco in 2009 as SL&RG 1100.

1114, F3Au, was built by Electro-Motive in June 1947, #3950, FN E740-A9, as GM&O 811-A.  It was rebuilt at Paducah on September 22, 1978, as MBTA 1114.  It was leased as Cape Cod RR 1114 in February 1992 until January 1998 and sold to Mid Atlantic Rail Car in January 1998.  It was leased as Indian Head Central RR 1114 in 1998 and leased to the Mirant power plant in 2001.  It was rebuilt by Relco in 2009 as SLRG 1114.

8524, B39-8, was built by General Electric in October 1987, #45433, as LMX Corp 8524.  It was sold to Railway Equipment Leasing Co as RLCX 8524 in June 2001 and sold as SLRG 8524.  It was transferred as Saratoga & North Creek Ry 8524 in 2011.

8527, B39-8, was built by General Electric in November 1987, #45436, as LMX 8527.  It was sold to Relco Inc as RLCX 8527 in June 2001 and sold as SLRG 8524.

8536, B39-8, was built by General Electric in December 1987, #45445, as LMX 8536.  It was sold as RLCX 8536 and sold as Montreal Maine & Atlantic 8536.  It was resold as SL&RG 8536.

8537, B39-8, was built by General Electric in December 1987, #45446, as LMX 8537.  It was sold as RLCX 8537 and resold as SL&RG 8537.

8596, B39-8, was built by General Electric in April 1988, #45505, as LMX 8596.  It was sold as National Railway Equipment Co 8596 and sold as Nashville & Eastern RR 8596 and resold as SLRG 8596.

9925, E9Au, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1954, #19634, FN 2065-A6, as Chicago Burlington & Quincy 9995.  It became Burlington Northern 9995, Class E-9, in 1970.  It was rebuilt by Morrison in June 1973 and renumbered 9925, Class E9AK.  It was sold to West Suburban Mass Transit District and leased back to BN.  It was retired in July 1992 and sold as Nashville & Eastern RR 9925.  It was sold as Larry's Truck Equipment Co LTEX 9925 in 2005 and sold as SLRG 9925 in 2012.

510 "Sunset View" was built by Budd in 1954 at Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 510.  It was sold as Auto-Train Corp 522 in 1971 and sold to Delaware Otsego in December 1981.  It was stored and sold to Holland America Tours Westours on December 30, 1985.  It was rebuilt as 510 "Chulitna" (800123) in 1987 and retired in March 2003.  It was sold to IPH in November 2007 as Arizona Eastern 510 "Copper Spike" and transferred as SLRG 510 "Sunset View".

3305 "Mardis Gras" was built in 1918 and rebuilt in 1947 from Illinois Central 2186, a coach.  It was sold to Louis Saia and sold to NRHS Roanoke in March 1978. It was painted as Norfolk & Western tuscan red.  It was sold to Pullman Rail Journeys and restored as San Luis & Rio Grande RR 3305 "Mardis Gras" in 2010.

3306 "Audubon Park" was built in 1918 and rebuilt in 1947 from IC 2175, a coach.  It was sold to John Brigham who did some charter work.  When he passed away, it was sold to an individual in Frisco, TX.  It was acquired by Pullman Rail Journeys in July 2013 and was sent to Alamosa, CO, for restoration as SLRG 3306 "Audubon Park".

3320 "Paducah" was built in 1918 as IC 2173, a coach.  It was rebuilt as 3320 "Paducah" in 1947.  It was sold as Carolina Southern RR 3320 and resold to Pullman Rail Journeys as SLRG 3320 in 2011.  It is being restored at Alamosa.

3378 "Calumet Club" was built in 1918 as IC 2211.  It was rebuilt as 3308 and rebuilt as 3378.  It was sold as Wisconsin & Calumet RR 3378 "Calumet Club".  It was was sold to another owner and resold to Iowa Pacific.  It became SLRG 3378 "Calumet Club".


Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Ry.

82, F7Au, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1952, #15910, FN 3122-A6, as Baltimore & Ohio 939, Class DF-5, a F7A.  It was renumbered 4582, Class FE-3, in 1957, and was reclassified as Class F-7A in 1964.  It was leased as Central RR of New Jersey 14 in December 1967 and returned as B&O 4582, Class F-7A, in 1973.  It was sold to Morrison Knudsen on April 4, 1975, and rebuilt as F9PH on January 29, 1981, as Maryland Department of Transportation 7182.  It became Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) 82 in 1989 and sold to Morrison Knudsen in 1994.  It was sold as Washington Central RR 82 in November 1996 and wrecked in May 2002.  It was rebuilt.  It was sold as SCMB 82 in November 2012.

84, F3Au, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1948, #5734, FN E940-A13, as B&O 165, Class DF-4.  It was rebuilt by Electro-Motive to F7 specifications in April 1951, Class DF-5, and renumbered 4472, Class FE-3, in 1957.  It was sold to Morrison Knudsen on February 2, 1975,and rebuilt as MDT 7184 on March 13, 1981, and became Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) 84 in 1989.  It was sold to Morrison Knudsen in 1994 and sold as WCRC 84 in November 1996.  It was sold as SCMB 84 in November 2012


Saratoga & North Creek Ry.

52, BL2, was built by Electro-Motive in March 1948, #8163, FN E1195-3, as Bangor & Aroostook 552, Class I-a.  It was renumbered 52 in 1953 and sold to Glen Mohart and painted as Janesville & Southeastern RR 52.  It was sold to Mineral Range Inc as MRAX 52 and sold to MidAmerica Rail Car Leasing MRLX 52.  It was sold as SNC 52 in 2011.

8524, B39-8, was built by General Electric in October 1987, #45433, as LMX Corp 8524.  It was sold to Railway Equipment Leasing Co as RLCX 8524 in June 2001 and sold as San Luis & Rio Grande 8524.  It was transferred as SNC 8524 in 2011.


West Texas & Lubbock RR

91, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in March 1950, #11117, as Missouri-Kansas-Texas 1501.  It was renumbered 91 in 1958 and retired on June 7, 1989.  It was sold to Wilson Ry on July 19, 1989, and sold as Floydada & Plainview RR 91.  It was transferred as Seagraves Whiteface & Lubbock RR 91 in 1990 and sold as WTLC 91 in 1995.

105, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1951, #12063, as MKT 1515.  It was renumbered 105 in 1958 and retired on June 9, 1989.  It was sold to Wilson Ry on July 19, 1989, and sold as SW&L 105.  It was sold as WTLC 105 in 1995.

107, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1951, #12065, as MKT 1517. It was renumbered 107 in May 1960 and sold to Wilson Ry Co on July 19, 1989. It was sold to Texas NorthEastern RR as 107 in June 1990.  It was sold as WT&L 107 in 2005.

113 "City of Brownfield", GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1951, #14990, FN 6323-4, as MKT 1523.  It was renumbered 113 in 1958 and retired on May 9, 1989.  It was sold to Wilson Ry on July 19, 1989, and sold as SW&L 113 in April 1990.  It was sold as WT&L 113 in January 1996.

118 "City of Levelland", GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1952, #17086, FN 5211-1, as MKT 1528.  It was renumbered 118 in 1958 and retired on June 6, 1989.  It was sold to Wilson Ry on July 19, 1989, and sold as SW&L 118 in April 1990.  It was sold as WT&L 118 in January 1996.  It was sold to National Ry Equipment Co as NREX 118 in 2005 and sold as Bolton's Crown Quality 118 "Eleanor" in 2007.

852, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1951, #11937, FN 5041-1, as Texas-Mexican Ry 852.  It was sold as New Mexico Gateway RR 852 in 2001 and resold as WT&L 852 in 2006.  It became a parts source.

3635, GP38, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1971, #36943, FN 7291-17. as Penn Central 7884, Class EF-20.  It became Consolidated Railroad Corp  7884, Class GP-38, in April 1976 and later Norfolk Southern as PRR 2932 in 1999.  It was sold to Helm Leasing Corp as HLCX 3635 and sold as West Texas & Lubbock RR 3635 in 2007.    It was sold to WATCo as WAMX 3884.
