Black Hills Central RR
This tourist railroad operates over the former Chicago Burlington & Quincy branch between Hill City and Keystone.
(5) was built by Lima on March 15, 1929, #3336, as J. Neils Lumber Co 5. The company was sold to St Regis Paper Co in 1957 and sold as Black Hills Central RR 5 in May 1964 but apparently never used. It was then sold to Mid-Continent Museum in June 1965 and resold to Illinois Railway Museum in 1967. It need much work and was sent into the shop in 2006 and will be in operation in 2019.
7 was built by Baldwin in May 1919, #51771, as Caddo River Lumber Co 9. It was sold as Ozan-Garysonia Lumber Co 2 "George Teat" and resold as Prescott & Northwestern RR 7 in 1938. It was sold as Higgins Shipbuilding Co 7 in early 1940s and returned as P&NW after the war. It was sold in 1961 as BHC 7.
9 was built by Cooke in February 1884, #1555, as Denver South Park & Pacific 72. It was renumbered 114 in 1885 and became Denver Leadville & Gunnison 114 in July 1989. It became Colorado & Southern 9, Class B-3A, in January 1899. It was painted as Deadwood Central RR 9 "Chief Crazy Horse" in 1948 and leased as BHC 9 in 1957 but only one side was painted. It was returned by Burlington Northern in December 1986. It was given to Colorado Historical Society and has been restored as C&S 9.
77 was built by Lima Locomotive Works on November 20, 1929, #3345, for Hofius Steel & Equipment. It was sold as New Mexico Lumber Co 7 and returned to Hofius on December 13, 1933. It was sold as Oregon Lumber Co 7 on July 7, 1937, which was merged as Edward Hines Lumber Co in December 1960. It was sold to Elliott Donnelley in 1961 and leased as BHC 77. It was sent to Hesston in June 1970 donated to LaPorte County Historical Steam Society in 1985. It was damaged in an engine house fire in 2006 and converted as a wood burner. It was restored as OLCo 6 on July 18, 2006.
103 was built by Baldwin in June 1922, #55482, as Silver Falls Timber Co 103. It was sold to Alaska Junk Co in 1938 and sold as Peninsula Terminal Co 103 in 1947. It was sold to William Heckman in May 1965 as BHC 103 and is in reconstruction.
104 was built by Baldwin in April 1926, #59137, as SFTCo 104. It was sold to Alaska Junk in 1938 and sold as PTCo 104 in 1947. It was sold to William Heckman in May 1965 as BHC 104 and is in regular service.
63, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1956, #22561, FN 5509-12, as Chesapeake & Ohio 6178, Class MRSE-17. It was reclassified Class GP-9 in 1964 and sold as Indiana & Ohio 63. It was sold Chillicothe-Brunswick Rail Authority as 63 in 1999 and resold as Progressive Rail Inc 63 in 2005. It was sold as BHC 63 in 2008.
6657, 80DE6, was built by Whitcomb in 1941, #60086, for Stone & Webster Co. It became United States Army 7379 and sold for Black Hills Power & Light Co with no number. It was then sold as BHC 6657.

Black Hills Warehouse
9525, NW2,was built by Electro-Motive in March 1949, #6696, FN E1022-14, as Baltimore & Ohio 573, Class DS-10E. It became DS-11E in 1955 and renumbered 9525, Class SE-5 in 1957. It was reclassified Class NW-2 in 1964 and retired in 1986. It was sold to Wilson Railway Corp on February 26, 1986. It was sold as BHW 9525 in February 1987 and resold as South Dakota Wheat Growers 9525 by February 1995.
Dakota Short Line RR
849, B30-7, was built by General Electric in March 1979, #42234, FN 1485-23, as Southern Pacific 7849, Class GF430-3. It was assigned UP 312, Class B30-7, and became Union Pacific 7849, Class B30-7, on December 9, 2001. It was retired on December 26, 2001, and sold to G&L Leasing. It was sold as DSL 849. It was sold to Railroad Service Contractors as MJRX on May 25, 2006. It was leased to Attebury Grain as MJRX 849 in October 2012.
Dakota Southern RR
This railroad operates former Milwaukee Road trackage between Mitchell and Kodoka for a total of 190 miles.
76, 70 Ton, was built by General Electric in June 1953, #31726, as Tidewater Southern RR 753, Class S-41. It was sold to Preston W Duffy in June 1967 and resold to George R Silcott Co. It was sold as Iowa Terminal RR 76 in January 1969 and sold as Sisseton Southern RR 76 in 1987. It became DSRC 76 in 1989.
103, S3, was built by Alco in May 1952, #79774, as Brooks-Scanlon Inc 102. It became Oregon & Northwestern RR 102 in January 1957 and sold as City of Prineville Ry 103 on September 25, 1968. It was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen in April 1972 and sold to D A Wilson Co in 1983. It was sold as Kewash RR 103 in October 1983 and resold as Sisseton Southern RR 103 in 1988. It became DSRC 103 in 1989.
506, SD9, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1954, #18777, FN 5287-9, as Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific 2232, Class 17.5E-RS6. It was renumbered 538 in 1959 and 506 in 1975. It was leased to Wisconsin & Southern as 506 in 1980 and returned in March 1981 when it was retired and sold to Chrome Crankshaft Co. It was sold as DSRC 506.
512, SD7, was built by Electro-Motive in June 1953, #16941, FN 5144-1, as Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific 2212, Class 15E-RS6. It was renumbered 512 in 1959 and retired in January 1981. It was sold to DSRC as 512 in September 1984.
522, SD7, was built by Electro-Motive in October 1953, #18308, FN 6516-3, as CMStP&P 2222, Class 15E-RS6. It was renumbered 522 in 1959 and leased to WSOR as 522 in 1980. It was returned in 1981 and later became DSRC 522.

N0ble Rocks RR
The Ellis & Eastern was formed as a subsidiary of Sweetman Construction Co in January 1989, and operates from Ellis to Brandon, 14.5 miles. Its principal purpose is to provide its parent company with rail service for the shipment of aggregate products to outside customers, as well as for shipment of raw materials between Sweetman Construction plants on the east and west sides of Sioux Falls. It also serves several outside customers located on the line.
7, SW1200RS, was built by Electro-Motive in 1957, #22827, FN 4376-1, as Grand Trunk Western 1269, Class GR-17j. It was renumbered 1509 in 1957 and sold to EE as 1509. It was later renumbered 7.
27, GP9u, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1954, #19907, FN 5359-18, as Illinois Central 9065. It was rebuilt by Paducah as 8065 in October 1970. It sold to Chicago Central & Pacific as 8065 and was later renumbered 1765. It was sold as EE 27.
47, GP38-3, was built by Electro-Motive in October 1969, #35428, FN 7191-125, as Penn Central 7799, Class EF-20. It became Consolidated Railroad Corp 7799, Class GP-38, in April 1976 and sold to Chicago Missouri & Western as 7799 in 1986. It was renumbered 2039 and became Gateway Western 2039 in January 1990. It was rebuilt by VMV Enterprises as 4099, GP38-3, in October 1997. It became Kansas City Southern 2006 in 2007 and sold to Independent Locomotive Service as ILSX 1348 in 2009. It was sold as EE 47 in January 2010.
RETX 302, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in June 1953, #18569, FN 5745-1, as Union Pacific It was renumbered 110 in October 1953 and wrecked in 1977. It was sold to Precision National on January 10, 1977. It was rebuilt in 1978 and sold as Amtrak 778. It was sold as ILSX 302. It was leased to Noble Rocks RR as RETX 302 in August 1997. It was and leased as Minnesota Northern RR 302.

111 was built by Lima Locomotive Works in January 1944, #8381, as United States Army 4047. It was sold as Bay Terminal RR 111 in March 1947 and sold to Iron & Steel Processing Corp in August 1955. It was sold as Duluth & Northeastern in April 1956 and sold to Earl Grice in 1970. It was sold to HPV in 1977 and operates it occasionally lettered as D&NE 29.
Homestake Gold Mining Co.
9 was built by H K Porter in April 1907, #3847. It is at the Black Hills Mining Museum.
22 was built by H K Porter in 1909, #4322. It was sold to Tommy Thomson in 1965 and rebuilt as Anacortes RR 1 between 1965 and 1986. He passed away in 1999 and the engine was sent to Georgetown Powerplant Museum. It was sold to Anacortes Historical Society in 2012.
Jarret Ranches, Inc.
627, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1954, #20057, FN 4286-3, as Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific 2022, Class 12E-S. It was renumbered 627 in 1959. It was retired and sold to JRInc as 627 in April 1982 and later sold to Sisseton Milbank RR as 627.

7, S1, was built by Alco in December 1944, #72849. It was sold as Association of American Railroads 7 in 1973 and donated to Mid-Continent Ry Museum as MCRY 7 in August 1996.

1, SW1, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1950, #11378, FN 6089-1, as St Joseph Terminal Ry 1. It was sold to Wilson Railway Corp in 1985 and sold as SDWGA 1 in October 1985. It was resold as McLean Elevator Co 1.
300, CF7, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1951, #13713, as Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 245L, Class 200, an F7A. It was retired on April 11, 1977, and was rebuilt at Cleburne as 2422, Class 2417, in January 1978. It was sold to General Electric in December 1984 and later to National Railway Equipment. It became Red River Valley & Western as 300 in July 1987. It later was sold to SDWGA as 300.
9419, SW900, was built by Electro-Motive in July 1955, #20403, FN 4301-20, as Baltimore & Ohio 644, SW900, Class DS-20E, . It was renumbered 9419, Class SE-3, in 1956, and was reclassified Class SW-900 in 1965. It was retired on September 8, 1986, and sold to Wilson Railway Corp on December 23, 1986. It was sold as SDWGA 9419 in May 1987.
9525, NW2,was built by Electro-Motive in March 1949, #6696, FN E1022-14, as B&O 573, Class DS-10E. It became DS-11E in 1955 and renumbered 9525, Class SE-5 in 1957. It was reclassified Class NW-2 in 1964 and retired in 1986. It was sold to Wilson Railway Corp on February 26, 1986. It was sold as Black Hills Warehouse 9525 in February 1987 and resold as SDWGA 9525 by February 1995.
