D&I Railroad
The D&I was formed in April 1982 to take over 138 miles of former Milwaukee Road trackage from Dell Rapids to Sioux City, IA. It is owned by L. G. Everist Co and provides local freight service as well as hauling gravel from Everist.
1, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1954, #19149, FN 5321-A19, as Union Pacific 148. It was retired on March 6, 1980, and sold as Everist 148 on December 2, 1980. It became D&I 1 in 1982.
2, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1954, #19787, FN 5361-13, as UP 262. It was retired in March 1980 and sold as Everist 262 on December 2, 1980. It became D&I 2 in 1982.
3, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1960, #26287, FN 7594-2, as Great Northern 2019, Class GP-20. It became Burlington Northern 2019, Class GP20, in 1970, and retired in October 1981. It was sold to D&I as 3 in November 1981. It was sold as Northern Plains RR 2280 in April 2012.
5, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1959, #25323, FN 7575-48, as Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific 328, Class 17.5E-RS. It was retired in December 1982 and sold to D&I as 5 in November 1983. It was scrapped in October 2010.
23, GP9, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1957, #22784, FN 5524-17, as Northern Pacific 301. It became BN 1739, Class GP-9, in 1970 and retired in December 1990, It was sold to National Ry. Equipment Co and sold as D&IRR 23 in August 1991.
25, GP7u, was built Electro-Motive in July 1950, #11684, as Chicago Rock Island & Pacific 432. It was rebuilt at Silvis on July 12, 1976, as 4528. It went to Precision National in April 1980. It was sold to Chicago & North Western in February 1981 and entered service as 4182 on August 26, 1981. It was sold as D&IRR 25.
26, GP7u, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1952, #17613, as CRI&P 1282. It was rebuilt at Silvis on November 9, 1976, as 4545 and it went to Precision National in April 1980. It was sold to C&NW in February 1981 and entered service as 4199 on May 4, 1981. It was sold as D&IRR 26, and sold as NIR 1905 in August 2011.
61, SW8m, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1938, #731, FN E221-2, as Kansas City Terminal Ry 61, Class 60, a NC. It was rebuilt as SW8m in December 1952 and sold as LGEX 13346. It was renumbered 61.
4027, SD39, was built by Electro-Motive built by Electro-Motive in April 1970, #35816, FN 7219-2, as Southern Pacific 5319, Class EF623-2. It was sold to ARCo as ANDX 4027 and transferred as D&IRR 4027 in 2008, It was sold to Motive Power Resources Inc as MVPX 4027 in March 2017.
