National Museum of Transportation
Manufacturers RR 1 was built by General Electric in 1893, #1437, for General Electric for the Columbian Exposition. It was sold as Manufacturer RR 1 in 1893 and became New York New Haven & Hartford 1. It was rebuilt by GE in 1901, #1607, and sold as Joe Cushing RR 1 in 1905. It was purchased by GE for preservation in 1948 and given to NMOT in 1964.
City of St Louis Water Works 1, GM15T, was built by Whitcomb in 1924, #11744. It was repainted as St Louis Dept of Parks & Recreation 1 and given to National Museum of Transportation. It was restored as Water Works 1.
Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific E2, Class EP-2, was built by General Electric in November 1918, #6979, as 10251. It was renumbered E2 on March 6, 1939, and was retired in January 1961. It was donated to the National Museum of Transportation
Union Depot RR 3 was apparently built by St Louis Car Co about 1880. It was preserved for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1903 and donated to NMOT in 1947.
Chicago Rock Island & Pacific 3 was built in August 1955, #21463/ FN 9002-1, as General Motors 1000. It was assigned and lettered as Pennsylvania RR 1000. It came to CRI&P in 1958 and was retired in September 1966. It was donated to the NMOT.
Lake Street Elevated RR 9 "Charles H", was built by Rhode Island Locomotive Works in July 1893, #2943. It was sold as Ozone Lumber Co 8 and sold to McGraw Steel Co in 1947 and sold as Valencia Iron & Coke SA 1. It was resold as La Consolidata SA and donated to NMOT in January 1958.
St. Louis Waterworks Ry 10 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1914, #1032. It was retired in 1959 and donated to NMOT in 1959.
Boston & Providence RR 17 "Daniel Nason" was built at Roxbury Shops in 1863. It was leased as Old Colony RR 170 in April 1888 and leased to New York New Haven & Hartford RR in March 1893. It was loaned to Purdue University in January 1905 and returned to New Haven in 1939. It was sold to John Leahy in December 1951 and sold to National Museum of Transportation in April 1982.
St. Louis Waterworks Ry 17 was built by American Car Co, #882, in 1910, as 7. It was renumbered 17 in 1919 and sent to NMOT in 1959.
Bellefontaine Ry 33 was built by Andrew Wight Car Co in approximately 1870. It was stored for many years and then donated to NMOT in 1944l
Chicago Transit Authority 44 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1960, #1804. It went to NMOT in 1998.
Baltimore & Ohio 50, AA, Class DE-1, was in August 1935 by General Electric and Electro-Motive, #11675, #532. It was rebuilt on March 13, 1936, and reclassified on October 11, 1940, as Class DP-1. It was transferred as Alton RR as 100 on May 1, 1943, and became Gulf Mobile & Ohio 1200 in June 1947. It was retired in June 1956 and sold for scrap to Hyman-Michaels on January 31, 1957. It was donated to NMOT and restored by B&O Robey Street shops. It was presented to the museum on December 17, 1958.
St Louis Public Service 60 was built by an unknown builder as a passenger car for St Louis & Suburban RR. It was rebuilt as 1010, water car, and then became United Rys 60 in 1907. It became SLPS 60 in 1927 and Bi-State Development Agency 60 in 1963. It was donated to NMOT in 1966.
General Motors Corp 103, FTA, was built by Electro-Motive in March 1939, #1030, FN E390-A1. It was sold as Cincinnati New Orleans & Texas Pacific (Southern Ry) 6100 in May 1941 and it was donated to NMOT on June 27, 1961. It was later restored as GM 103.
Illinois Terminal 104 was built by American Car in 1917, #1092, as Alton Granite & St Louis 64. In 1926 it became St Louis & Alton Ry 64 and in 1930 it became IT 104. It was acquired by NMOT in 1956.
New York Central 113, Class S-2, was built by Alco-General Electric in September 1906, #29948, 2113, as New York Central & Hudson River 3413, Class T-2. It was renumbered 3213 in September 1908 and rebuilt with 4 wheel leading trucks in 1909 as Class S-2. It was renumbered 1113 in October 1917 and renumbered 113 in August 1936. It is now preserved at the NMOT.
Monsanto Chemical Co 117 was built by American Car & Foundry in 1940. It was donated to NMOT.
St Louis Public Service 165 was built by Lindell Rys in 1893. It became United Rys in 1899 and rebuilt as wrecker 81 in 1904. It was renumbered 165 in February 1911 and given to the NMOT in 1966.
Baltimore & Ohio 173, Class B-58, was built by B&O in 1873 as 363. It was renumbered 173 in 1884 and donated to Purdue University in November 1901. It was then donated to NMOT in October 1951.
Delaware Car Co 204 was built by Brill in 1931, #22932, as Philadelphia & Western R 204. It became Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Co 204 in 1948 and Southeastern Pennnsylvania Transportation Authority 204 in 1970. It was sold as body to DCCo in 1986 and acquired by NMOT in 1996.
llinois Terminal 206 was built by White Motor Co in 1936 for service between Alton and Grafton. It was sold on November 16, 1953, for scrap to Hyman Michaels who then donated it to the NMOT.
1st St Louis Public Service 215 was built by Brownell Car Co in 1892 for Bellefontaine RR unknown number. It became United Rys 33 in 1900 and rebuilt as 215, rail grinder, in 1910. It was rebuilt as a work car in 1924 and rebuilt as a rail grinder in 1927. It was donated to NMOT in 1947.
2nd St Louis Public Service 215 was built by SLPS in 1946. It was donated to NMOT in 1966.
Illinois Terminal 241 was built by American Car & Foundry in July 1907, #5080. It went to the NMOT on July 25, 1950.
Hudson & Manhattan RR 256, Class B, was built by Pressed Steel Car Co in 1909. It became Port Authority Trans-Hudson in 1962 and was acquired by NMOT in 1962.
Missouri-Kansas-Texas 311 was built by Baldwin in February 1890, #10640 as 200. It was renumbered 280 in 1892 and renumbered 311 in 1912. It was donated as NMOT in September 1952.
Illinois Terminal 410 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1924, #1324, as Chicago Ottawa & Peoria Ry 62. It became Chicago & Illinois Valley RR 62 in 1929. It was rebuilt as IT 410 in April 1930 and donated to NMOT.
United Rys 426 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1921, # 1247. It was donated to NMOT in 1948.
Chicago & Illinois Midland 551, Class F-4, was built by Lima in September 1928, #7330. It was retired in June 1955 and donated to the NMOT.
Wabash RR 573, Class F-5, was built by Rhode Island Locomotive in November 1899, #3146, as 754, Class F-5. It was simpled in February 1915 and donated it in June 1955 to NMOT.
St Louis Iron Mountain & Southern 635 was built by Baldwin in June 1989, #10070. It became Missouri Pacific 2707, Class TN-61 and donated to NMOT in 1947. It was renumbered as 635.
Georgia RR 724 was built by Baldwin in 1896, #15038, as Georgia RR 49. It was renumbered 722 and renumbered 724. It was sold to East St Louis Junction RR 17 in 1941 and sold as St Louis Material & Supply Co 17 in 1950. It became Basic Materials and given to NMOT in April 1964. It was restored as Georgia RR 724 and given a wild paint scheme later.
St Louis Public Service 742 was built by URys in 1921. it was donated by MOT in 1953.
St Louis Public Service 855 was built by Laclede Car Co in 1895 for Southern Electric Co. It became United Rys 855 in 1899 and became SLPS in 1927, It was donated to NMOT in 1947. It was apparently later scrapped.
Delaware Lackawanna & Western 952 was by Alco-Schenectady in April 1905, #30555. It was donated to Railway & Locomotive Historical Society in 1939 and donated to NMOT in May 1953.
St Louis Public Service 1001 was built by URys in 1907. It became SLPS in 1927. It was donated to NMOT in 1947 and apparently later scrapped.
St Louis Public Service 1005 was built by URys in 1909 as 1065. It became SLPS in 1927. It was renumbered 1006 in 1943 and was donated to NMOT in 1947.
United States Army 1149, 30 Ton Direct Drive Turbine, was built by Davenport-Bessler in September 1954, #3437. It was sold to Railroad Construction Co in 1959 after the reduction gear failed in 1957. It was resold to Mecklenburg Equipment Co in 1964 and later acquired by National Museum of Transportation. Lionel built a model of this locomotive.
Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit 1363 was built by Jewett Car Co in 1905, as Brooklyn Rapid Transit 1363. It became BMT 1363 in 1923 and became New York City Transit 1363 in 1940. It was acquired by NMOT in 1958.
Kansas City Public Service 1533 was built by American Car Co in December 1919, #1227 It was acquired by NMOT in 1949.
Illinois Terminal 1575, Class B, was built at Decatur in 1918. It was sold to St Louis Car Co as 9 on June 23 1953, and sold to NMOT in September 1963.
Illinois Terminal 1595, Class C, was built at Decatur in December 1929. It went to the NMOT on December 18, 1956.
Standard Brands Inc 1634, wooden vinegar car, was built by Fleischmann Transportation Co in 1938. It was donated to NMOT.
St Louis Public Service Co 1743 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1946, #1655. It was sold as Municipal Ry of San Francisco 1164 in 1957 and sold to Wisconsin Electric Railway Historical Society in 1983. It was sold to NMOT in 1989 and restored as SLPS 1743.
Chicago Burlington & Quincy 1942, Class MB-22, was built by St Louis Car Co in November 1922. It was donated as NMOT in March 1970.
Joplin-Pittsburg RR 2003, PE 70 Ton, was built by Plymouth in September 1936, #3865. It was sold as Fort Dodge Des Moines & Southern 501 in October 1954 and resold to Sonken & Galamba Co in December 1956. It was sold as Kansas City Public Service Freight Operation 1 in July 1957 and retired in 1964. It was preserved as J-PRR 2003 by NMOT in 1964.
Norfolk & Western 2156, Class Y-6b, was built at Roanoke in March 1942, #317. It went to NMOT in August 1959.
St Louis Public Service 2250 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1903 as URy 2250. It was donated to NMOT.
Purdue University 2611, test car, was built by J G Brill Car Co in 1903 as "Louisiana", a demo car. It was rebuilt with a windsplitter end in 1908 and donated to Purdue. It was donated to NMOT in 1951.
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority 2740 was built by St Louis Car Co in March 1947, #1649. as Philadelphia Transportation Co 2740. It became SEPTA in 1968. It was sold by National Museum of Transportation in October 1994.
New York Central 2933, Class L-2d, was built by Alco-Schenectady in October 1929, #68126, as Cleveland Cincinnati Chicago & St Louis 6233. It was renumbered in 1936 as NYC 2933 and retired in 1955. It was donated to NMOT in 1962.
Erie Lackawanna 3607, SD45, Class MFE-36D-6, was built in June 1967, #33107, FN 7991-7. It became Consolidated Railroad Corp 6072, Class SD45, in April 1976 and donated to NMOT in 1986.
Union Tank Car Co 3882 was built by UTCCo in 1936. It was donated to NMOT in 1983.
Union Pacific 4006 was built by Alco-Schenectady in September 1941, #69577. It was retired in May 1961 and donated to NMOT in June 1961.
Southern Pacific 4460. Class GS-6, was built by Lima in July 1943, #8013. It was retired on October 31, 1958, and donated to NMOT on April 16, 1959.
Pennsylvania RR 4700, Class P-5. was built at Juniata, #4251, in July 1931, as 7898. It was renumbered 4700 in 1933 and donated to NMOT 1966.
Pennsylvania RR 4916, Class GG-1, was built by Juniata-General Electric in June 1942, #4388, as PRR 4918, Class GG-1. It became PC 4918 Class GG-1 in 1968. In March 1973 it became National Railway Passenger Corp 916. It was renumbered 4916 in July 1979, and it was acquired by NMOT in 1986.
Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 5011, Class 5011, was built by Baldwin in 1944, #70817. It was retired in 1959 and donated to NMOT.
Union Pacific 6944, Class DDA40X, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1971, #35518, FN 7198-20. It was retired on June 25, 1984, and donated to NMOT on August 14, 1984. It was sent to Altoona for cosmetic restoration from October 2014 and returned in May 2015.
Chicago Burlington & Quincy 9908 "Silver Charger", AA, was built by Budd and powered by Electro-Motive in April 1939, #96101, FN E212-1. It was donated to NMOT in 1966.
Missouri Kansas & Texas 12145 was built by American Car & Foundry in 1901 as a box car. It was cut down as a flat car and and donated to NMOT.
MK&T 12321 was built by American Car & Foundry in 1901. It was donated to NMOT.
Union Tank Car Co 14387 was built by UTC in 1910. It was donated to NMOT in 1952.
American Refrigerator Transit 52461 was built by ART in 1929. It was donated to NMOT in 1958. The painter made any error when the number was added but it corrected later..
St Louis South-Western MW 95589 was built by Baldwin Locomotive in 1913 as a Chicago Rock Island & Pacific 2-8-2 tender. It was rebuilt in the 1920s as a water tank car and rebuilt as snow plow in 1957. It was transferred as SSW MW 95589 in 1980 and donated to NMOT.
General American Transportation Co 96500, "Whale Belly", was built by GATX in 1965. It was an experimental car but it caused clearance problems. It was donated to NMOT.
Union Pacific 900081, rotary plow, was built at Omaha in 1957. It was donated to NMOT.
Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane E550.025 was built by Societa Italiana Westinghouse in 1910. It was sent to NMOT in 1968 but in poor condition due to outside storage. It is planned to send to Piedmont Railway Museum in Italy.
