Nevada Short Lines and Industrial Railroads

 

BHP Nevada RR

13, RS3, was built by Alco in October 1951, #79244, as Lehigh & Hudson River RR 13.  It was sold to George R Silcott in December 1971 and resold as San Manuel Arizona RR 13.  It was sold as BHPN 13 in 1997 and is now stored at Nevada Northern RR Museum.

203, SD9u, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1954, #19460, FN 5322-32, as Southern Pacific 5371, Class DF-120.  It was renumbered 3830, Class EF618-2, in 1965 and rebuilt as 4412, Class EF618-1, in 1976.  It was sold as BHNP   203 in 1996 and sold as Rock & Rail RR 203 in 1998.


Bluestone Mining & Smelting Co.

1 was built by Heisler in January 1917, #1351.  It was sold as Mason Valley Mines Co 1 in 1929 and sold to J L Botsford , dealer, in 1939.  It was restored as Blake Brothers Co 6 in 1944 and retired in 1959.  It was used for a railfan trip and painted as 1,  It was sold to Burt Randolph in October 1962.


Dayton Sutro & Carson Valley RR

1, "Joe Douglass" was built by H K Porter in February 1882, #513.  It was acquired by Lake Arrowhead Development Co in about 1904 and was placed on display.  It  was sold to a series of several owners until it was acquired by Nevada State Railroad Museum in 1984.  It has been on display ever since.


Golconda & Adelaide RR

 "Pearl" was built by Baldwin in March 1879, #4562, as Utah & Northern Ry 13.  It became Oregon Short Line & Utah Northern Ry 13 in August 1889 and sold out in February 1897.  It was sold as Glasgow & Western Exploration Co. in 1899 as G&A "Pearl" and sold to Sugarman Iron & Metal Co in March 1913.  It was sold as Nevada Short Line 1 in 1914 and sold to a scrap dealer in 1920.  It was sold as Nevada Central RR 6 in 1924 and sold to J M Hiskey in 1938.  It was sold to Golden Gate International Exposition in 1938 and donated to Railway & Locomotive Historical Society (Oakland) in 1941.  It was transferred to Pacific Coast Chapter and donated to California State Railway Museum in 1969.


 Goldfield Historical Society

5 was built by H K Porter in November 1942, #7488, as United States Army 5014.  It was reported as E J Lavino & Co 5 and sold as Cumberland Falls Scenic RR 5 in 1969.  It was reported as sold to California State Railway Museum but it was apparently for parts only.  It was given to GHS in 2008 where it has been cometically restored.


Las Vegas & Tonopah RR

10 was built by Baldwin in November 1907, #32251.  It was sold as San Diego & Arizona 26 in 1919 and sold as Southern Pacific 2386, Class T-58,  on June 20, 1941.  It was resold as San Diego & Arizona Eastern 25 on September 19, 1948.  It was scrapped in October 1951.

2 "Sidney Dillon" was built by Baldwin in April 1881, #5575.  It was sold to Hyman Michaels Co in 1938 and sold to Ward Kimball.  It was restored as Grizzly Flats RR 2 "Emma Nevada".  It was moved to Orange Empire Railway Museum in 1990.

5 was built by Baldwin in March 1876, #3843, as North Pacific Coast RR 12 "Sonoma".  It was sold as NC 5 "Gen J H Ledlie" in 1879 and the name change as "Jos Collett" in June 1880.  The name was removed in November 1888 and sold to J M Hiskey in 1938.  It was resold as Golden Gate International Exposition in 1938 and donated to Railway & Locomotive Historical Society in 1941.  It was then donated to California State Railroad Museum and displayed as NPCRR 12.

Nevada Northern RR Museum

109, RS3, was built by Alco in November 1950, #78429, as Kennecott Copper Co 109.  It was acquired by NNRM 109.

244, MRS1, was built by Alco and General Electric in 1953, #80436, #31677, as United States Army B2122.  It later became United States Navy 65-00544 and sold as Feather River & Western 244.  It was sold as NN 244 and sold as Yreka Western RR 244.

401, SD7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1952, #16824, FN 6397-1.

Pabco Gypsum Corp.

2117, GP35, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1964, #28469, FN 7695-8, as Southern Pacific 7415, Class DF-623. It was renumbered 6527, Class EF425-1, in 1966, and sold to Purdy Co. Pabco had the locomotive painted for their Apex, NV, plant, but then out-sourced their switching to Nevada Industrial Switch. 2117 was never delivered and was later sold to the Missouri & Northern Arkansas as 6527. It was later sold to the Paducah & Louisville where it was rebuilt as 2118.


Pacific Portland Cement Co.

501 was built by M Bair & Co (Baldwin) in January 1873, #3091, as Virginia & Truckee RR 13 "Empire".  It was renumbered 15 in 1910 since the crews thought it was unlucky number.  It was sold as PPCCo 501 in January 1934 and put in storage in 1931.  It was donated to R&LHS in 1938 and sent to the San Francisco area.  It was moved to Bethlehem Steel shipbuilding yard where it got cosmetic restoration in 1966.  It went to California State Railway Museum in 1976 where it got a complete restoration between 1978 and 1981.


 Rail & Motor International Ltd.

3035, GP40, was built by Electro-Motive in September 1971, #37854, FN 7332-17, as Western Pacific 3543, Class RS-68.  It became Union Pacific 690, Class GP40, in August 1985 and retired on September 30, 1986.  It was returned to Helm and in April 1987 it became Chicago Missouri & Western 3025.  It became Gateway Western 3025 in January 1990 and sold to Wilson in September 1990.  It was sold as Wisconsin Central Ltd as 3025 in December 1990 and retired on February 15, 2008.  It was sold as RIMX 3025 in 2008 and sold to Montana Rail Link as 3025 in July 2009.  It was outshopped as 500 in September 2014.


Steptoe Valley Mining & Smelting Co.

3 was built by H K Porter in January 1914, #5247.  It became Nevada Consolidated Copper Co 309 in 1914 and sold as Kennecott Copper Co 309 in December 1942.  It was sold to Charles Heimerdinger in 1965 and transferred to Pacific Locomotive Association.  It was set up with a tender and lettered as Castro Point Ry 3 in 1980.  It was sold to Nevada Northern Ry museum in 2010.


Tahoe Timber Co.

4 was built by Baldwin Locomotive March 1924, #57684, as Clover Valley Lumber Co 4.  It was sold as Feather River Lumber Co 4 in December 1957 and was sold as TTCo as a stationary boiler in December 1957.  It was donated to Pacific Locomotive Association in July 1976.

This fallen flag was mostly in California.


Virginia & Truckee RR

2nd 1 "Lyon" has been underconstruction beginning by Strasburg RR in 2002 for the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

5 "Carson" was built by Baldwin in 1869, #1947.  It was sold to D O Mills & Co in 1883.

12 "Genoa" was built by M Bair & Co (Baldwin) in January 1873, #3090.  It was sold to Eastern Railroads in 1938 for the New York Worlds Fair and donated to Railway & Locomotive Historical Society in 1940.  It was shown at the Chicago Railroad Fair as Central Pacific 60 "Jupiter" and donated to the California State Railway Museum in 1969.

21 "J W Bowker" was built by Baldwin in February 1875, #3689.  It was renamed "Mexico" in 1876 and resold as Sierra Nevada Wood & Lumber Co 3 in 1896.  It became Hobart Estate Co 3 in 1917 transferred as Hobart Southern RR 3 in 1932.  It was donated to Railway & Locomotive Historical Society in June 1937  and set up by Pacific Chapter in 1964.  It went to CSRM in August 1969,

22 "Inyo" was built by Baldwin in February 1875, #3693.  It was sold to Paramount Pictures in March 1937 and appeared in various movies.  It was leased to National Parks Service as Central Pacific 60 "Jupiter" in 1969 and sold to State of Nevada as V&T 22.

25 was built by Baldwin in January 1905, #25016.  It was sold to RKO Radio Pictures Inc in April 1947 and resold as Desilu Productions Inc in January 1958.  It was to Hurlbut Amusements Co in January 1964 and sold to State of Nevada in August 1971.

27 was built by Baldwin in March 1913, #39453.  It was sold to Purdy Co in June 1950 and donated to State of Nevada.  It was restored as a static display at the NSRM and sent to the Comstock History Center in 2018/

"28" was built by Cooke Locomotive in February 1888, #1861, as Denver Texas & Fort Worth 9.  It became Fort Worth & Denver City 114 in 1890 and sold as Dardanelle & Russellville 8 in September 1907.  It was sold to Twentieth Century Fox for movies in 1944 and sold as Shortline Enterprises 8 in February 1971.  It was operated as V&T 28 in 1975 and later stored as NSRM 8.

"30" was built by Sacramento Shops in November 1919, as Southern Pacific 1251, Class S-12.  It was retived at West Oakland on January 18, 1957, and donated to Stockton, CA, on December 3, 1958.  It was sold to Virginia & Truckee RR in 1984.  It was planned to rebuilt as 2-6-0 30 but it will take a long time.
