Davenport, Rock Island & North Western Ry.

 

Switching the Tri-Cities (now Quad Cities) area was a railroad jointly owned by the Burlington and Milwaukee Roads. It began in 1884 as the Davenport & Rock Island Ry Bridge Co. In 1895 it became the Davenport & Rock Island Bridge Ry and Terminal Co. Finally the DRI&NW name was adopted in 1898. The trackage extends from Clinton, IA, to Carbon Cliff, IL, and includes the bridge over the Mississippi. Locomotives were mostly hand-me-downs from the Milwaukee and the Q until dieselization. After the first group of Alcos, the use of diesels from the parents was resumed.

In 1970, CB&Q ownership went to the Burlington Northern, and later Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific ownership went to the Soo Line.

3 was built by Baldwin in February 1901, #18699. It became CM&StP 522 in 1906. It was then renumbered as 747 in 1908 and 732 in 1913. It was retired in September 1928.

22 was built at Aurora in 1886 as Chicago Burlington & Quincy 461, Class G-1.  It was renumbered 1461 in 1898 and sold as DRI&NW 22 in 1914.  It was scrapped in 1927

50 appears to be from the same litter as 51.

51 was built by Brooks in September 1910, #48897, and was formerly Chicago Junction Ry.

52 was built at Aurora in 1910 as Chicago Burlington & Quincy 1518, Class G-3.  It was sold as DRI&NW 52 in February 1929.

53 was built by Baldwin in 1912, #38815, as CB&Q 1540, Class G-3.  It was sold as DRI&NW 53 in March 1929.

54 was also by Baldwin in 1913, #39560, as CB&Q 1556, Class G-3.  It was sold as DRI&NW 54 in May 1929.

55 was built by Baldwin in November 1912, #38816, as CB&Q 1541, Class G-3. It went to DRI&NW in November 1929 and was scrapped in August 1952.

56 was also formerly a CB&Q Class G-3.

57 was also formerly a CB&Q Class G-3.

58 was formerly a CB&Q Class G-3.

59 was built at Milwaukee in June 1913 as CM&StP 1281, Class I-5a. It was renumbered 1508 in 1938 and was sold to DRI&NW 59 in September 1941.

1, S3, was built by Alco in December 1951, #79532.  It was sold to Birmingham Rail & Locomotive in December 1975; and sold as U.S. Agri-Chemicals Corp 076

5, S3, was built by Alco in September 1953, #80292.   It was sold to Birmingham Rail & Locomotive in December 1975 and sold as Alexander RR 6 in 1976.

84, SW1, was built by Electro-Motive on June 15, 1939, #900, FN E259-4, as CB&Q 9139. It became Burlington Northern 84, Class SW-1, in 1970, and went to DRI&NW soon after. It was retired in April 1984 and was later sold to ConAgra as 84.

86, SW1, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1940, #1068, FN E310-1, as CB&Q 9141. It became BN 86, Class SW-1, in 1970 and went to DRI&NW soon after. It was retired in April 1984 and sold to Wilson Ry Corp in October 1985. It was sold to Potlatch Corp as 86.

107, SW7, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1949, #10932, FN 6054-1, as Northern Pacific 107.  It became BN 107, Class SW-7, in 1970 and transferred as DRI&NW107.  It was sold as Tulsa-Sapulpa Union RR 107.

108, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1954, #20070, FN 4286-16, as CMStP&P 2035, Class 12 E-S. It was renumbered 640 in 1959 and was transferred to DRI&NW as 640 in 1977.  It was renumbered as 108 in October 1980.   It was later sold to National Ry Equipment Co and then to A. E. Staley Co. at Decatur. IL

109, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in January 1954, #18763, as CMStP&P 1642, Class 12E-S.  It was renumbered 619 in 1959 and transferred to the DRI&NW as 109 in October 1980.

121, SW7, was built by Electro-Motive in May 1950, #8499, as CB&Q 9255. It became BN 121, Class SW-7, in 1970 and went to DRI&NW soon after.

601, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1954, #20042, as CMStP&P 2049, Class 12E-S. It was renumbered 601 in 1959 and transferred to the DRI&NW as 601.

602, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1954, #20043, as CMStP&P 2050, Class 12E-S. It was renumbered 602 in 1959 and transferred to the DRI&NW as 602 in October 1975. When the DRI was broken up in 1995, it became Canadian Pacific 331. In 1997 it was sold to I&M Rail Link as 14 and was transferred to Iowa Chicago & Eastern 14 in 2002.

611, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1954, #20052, FN 4284-12, as CMStP&P 2059, Class 12E-S. It was renumbered 611 in 1959 and became DRI&NW 611 in May 1980.  It was renumbered 108 and became Soo Line 329 in 1995.  It became CP 329 in 1997 and sold as IMRL 12 in 1997.  It became IC&E 12 in 2002 and sold to Locomotive Specialists as LOSX 147.  It was sold to Vali Commercial as 525.

613, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1954, #20054, as CMStP&P 2059, Class 12E-S. It was renumbered 611 in 1959 and became DRI&NW 613.  It was sold as National Ry Equipment Co 613 in 1995 and was leased to Geneva Steel in 1998.

625, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in November 1954, #20055, as CMStP&P 2020, Class 12E-S.  It was renumbered 625 in 1959.  It was transferred as DRI&NW 625 in March 1981 and sold as Canton RR 1201.  It was renumbered 1203.

865, SW1, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1939, #904, as CMStP&P 1612, Class 6E-S. It was renumbered 962 in 1959 and 865 in January 1973. It went to DRI&NW 865 in October 1975.

The bridge was built by Rock Island Bridge & Terminal Co in 1900 and owned by the DRI&NW in 1901.  It was use jointly owned by the Q and Milwaukee Road.  It became owned by the Iowa side by the Canadian Pacific and the Illinois side by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
