Minnesota Trolley Lines

 

 

Central Warehouse Co.

This was an industry in St, Paul which had electric tracks and later the wires were removed in 1951.  It was established in 1917

7 was a RailTruck.

11 was built by General Electric in July 1913, #3769, a gasoline motor car as Minneaolis St Paul Rochester & Dubuque Electric Co 100.  It was sold as CWCo 11 in 1917 and coverted as an electric locomotive.  It was sold as Minneapolia Aanoka & Cuyuna Range 100 in 1922 and became Northern Pump Co 100 between 1943 and 1946.  It was converted with a Waukesha diesel locomotive in 1957 and donated to Minnesota Transportation Museum in 1967.

No number was built by General Electric in 1919.  It was retired in 1951.

Interstate Iron Co.

207 was built by General Electric in 1930, #11389.  It was sold as Waterloo Cedar Falls & Northern 207 in 1947 and retired in 1957.

208 was built by General Electric in 1930, #11390.  It was sold as WCF&N 208 in 1947 and retired in 1957.

209 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in September 1912, #38298, as Portland Eugene & Eastern 102. In 1915 it became Southern Pacific 202 and in 1942 it was sold to IICo as their 209. In 1944 it came to the WCF&N as 187 and was scrapped in 1957.

210 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in August 1912, #38154, as PE&E 101.  In 1915 it became SP 201 and sold as IICo 210 in 1942.  It was sold as WCF&N 186 in 1944 and scrapped in 1957.


Mesaba Railway

This line was opened in December 1912 between Hibbing and Gilbert, 36 miles. It was owned and financed primarily by Boston interests. In 1919 thru 1921, 8 miles of new track were built between Chisholm and Hibbing and between North Hibbing and South Hibbing due to mining expansion. The road was profitable until 1920 when revenue began to fall due to concrete highway construction. The railroad was placed in receivership in 1924 and abandoned on April 16, 1927.

10 was built by Niles Car in 1912 and retired in 1927.  The body was acquired by Minnesota Transportation Museum in 1977.


Minneapolis Anoka & Cuyuna Range RR.

Northern Pump Co.

It was opened in 1913 (15 miles) as Minneapolis & Northern using McKeen motor cars.  It went bankrupt in 1914 and reorganized in 1915 as MA&CR,  The McKeens were repossessed and steam was borrowed.  It was electrified in 1915.  The TCRT agreed to run cars into Minneapolis.  Freight service was electrified in 1922.  It was reorganized in 1926 and passenger service ended in 1939.  The line was purchased by Northern Pump Co in 1943 for a defense plant in Fridley and passenger service was restored for their employes until 1948.  The remaining tracks were purchased by Great Northern.

3 was built by Twin City Rapid Transit on June 28, 1917, as TCRT 1855, Class L-8  It was sold as MA&CR 8 on November 20, 1917, and rebuilt and renumbered 3 in 1943.  It was scrapped on May 14, 1952.

5 was built by McGuire Cummings Car Co in 1016.  It was scrapped in 1943.

NSPCo had power and transit lines in Minnesota, western Wisconsin, upper Michigan, and the Dakotas.


St. Paul Southern Electric Ry.

No number was built by Twin City Rapid Transit in 1917.  It was sold to Minneapolis Anoka & Cuyuna Range RR when the line was abandoned in 1928 and became 110.  It was scrapped in 1948.

University of Minnesota

Twin City Rapid Transit 1267 was built at Snelling Shops in September 1907, as Class H-6.  It was rebuilt as Class I-8 in 1928   It was given to Seashore Electric Ry in 1953.


Wisconsin Railway Light & Power Co.

Mississippi Valley Public Service Co.

10 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1914, #1012.  It was retired in 1938 and the body became a cabin near Winona.  It was acquired by Minnesota Transportation Museum in 1999 and transferred as Minnesota Streetcar Museum in 2006.  It was restored and became operable in November 2016.
