Albemarle Paper Mfg. Co.

"The Rebel" was built by H K Porter in December 1942, #7466, as United States Army 5019.  It was sold as Tredegar Co 4 in 1955 and the company was resold as APMCo as "The Rebel" in 1960.  It was donated as Old Dominion NRHS chapter which became Richmond Railroad Museum.  It was restored in 1982 and renumbered 1 in 1983.

"Belle Island Queen", was built by H K Porter Co inb August 1936, #7228, as Virginia Electric & Power Co, no number.  It was sold to APM "Belle Island Queen" in December 1959 and donated to NRHS Old Dominion Chapter, RRM.


Alberene Stone Co.

Nelson & Albemarle Ry.

The N&ARy operated a line of about 17 miles that extended from a connection with the Southern Railway at Rockfish, Virginia and ran eastward through Schuyler and Estmont up to Alberene, location of the old ASCo. The purpose of the N&A was to serve the soapstone quarries located in the Virginia counties of Nelson and Albemarle, and also the company plant at Schuyler.

11 was built by Vulcan in October 1909, #1381, as Culver & Port Clinton RR 2.  It was rebuilt with new boiler, #2929, by Vulcan in July 1916 and returned to Vulcan.  It was sold as N&A 11 in March 1923 and rebuilt with new boiler in 1927.  It was apparently retired in 1951 and scrapped at Richmond in 1954.

12 was built by Vulcan in February 1924, #3426.  It was scrapped in 1953.

14 was built by Vulcan in February 1925, #3507.  It was scrapped in 1953.

3, 25 Ton, was built General Electric in January 1953, #31778.   It was transferred as Georgia Marble Co 3 in 1963 and sold to Railrhodes Inc in 2004.  It was sold to Great Lakes Calcium Co no number.


Allegheny Central

This was a tourist line.

606 was built by Lima in April, 1945, #8784, as United States Army 5846.  It was renumbered 606 in 1951 and was retired in 1969. It was donated to Falling Springs Station, Clifton Forge, VA in 1971 and later donated to Allegheny Central Scenic RR but never used.  It was then given to Crewe Railroad Museum and cosmetically restored as Norfolk & Western 606.

1286 was built by Canadian Locomotive in May 1948, #2443, as Canadian Pacific 1286, Class G-5d. It was retired in December 1963 and sold to George M Hart as Rail Tours Inc in 1964.  It was sold to Historic Rail Valley Equipment & Leasing Corp in August 1968 and sold to Allegheny Central Scenic RR in 1983.  It was painted as Rutland RR 82 in December 1973 and lettered as ACRR as 1286.  It later became Virginia Central Scenic RR 1286.  It was shipped to Vintage Locomotive Society (also known as the Prairie Dog Central) in September 2015.


Allied Fibers & Plastics

203, SW1200, was built by Electro-Motive in July 1965, #30511, FN 7811-1, as Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac 84.  It became CSX Transportation 1303, Class SW1200, in 1991 and sold as AF&P 203.

This is a regional company.


Atlantic & Danville

Norfolk Franklin & Danville

At one time this road operated 250 miles between Norfolk and Danville. There was also a 50 mile branch from near Emporia to Claremont on the James River plus several shorter branches. It was under lease to the Southern Ry when it became independent. It was acquired by the Norfolk & Western in 1962 and operated as NF&D with second generation diesels. The Claremont branch is long gone, and the main line is gone between Lawrenceville and Blanche. It is now operated as a couple of branch lines by Norfolk Southern.

101 thru 106, RS2, were built by Alco in 1949 and 107, RS3, was added in 1951. These were all later traded in to Alco.

102, RS2, was built by Alco in July 1949, #76990, and was traded in to Alco in 1962.

1 and 2, RS36, were built by Alco in 1962 under N&W ownership.

2, RS36, was built by Alco in October 1962, #84393.  It was built as A&D and became NF&D in 1962.  It was sold as Delaware Coast Line RR 2 and sold to Sterling Rail in 2018.  It was sold as Southern New England 5012 in 2018 but not in service until 2020.   It was leased to Batten Kill RR.

They were later supplemented with 201 thru 204, RS11, built by Alco for the Nickle Plate.

201, RS11, was built by Alco in February 1956, #81459, as New York Chicago & St Louis 558, Class ARS-18A. It became N&W 2558 in 1965 and was later lease to NF&D as 201.

203, RS11, was built by Alco in March 1956, #81462, as NYC&StL 561, Class ARS-18A. It became N&W 2561 in 1965 and later NF&D 203.


Atlantic Wood Industries, Inc.

No Number, 25 Ton, was built by General Electric.

Blue Ridge Stone Co.

1 was built by Heisler in 1922, #1456.


Bristol & Northwestern Ry.

5, 65 Ton, was built by Porter in April 1944, #7646, as Jackson Iron & Steel Co 5.  It was sold to B&NW as 5 in 1981 and later sold to Lonesome Pine RR.

4960 was built by Baldwin in 1923, #56809, as Chicago Burlington & Quincy 4960, Class O-1A. After retirement it went to the Mid-Continent Railway Museum. In 1981 it was leased to the B&NW as 4960, and in 1995 it was sold the Grand Canyon Ry and rebuilt as 4960.

Chesapeake Western RR

10, T6, was built by Alco in January 1959, #82309, as Norfolk & Western 10.  It was assigned as Chesapeake Western 10.  It was sold to Maryland & Delaware for parts.

11, T6, was built by Alco in January 1959, #82310, as NW 11.  It was assigned as CHW 11.   It was retired in April 1985 and traded in to GE in November 1986.  It was sold as MDDE 18 in December 1985.


Clinchfield Coal Co.

100, SW600, was built by Electro-Motive in September 1958, #24745, FN 4423-1.  It was sold as Dickenson-Russell Coal Co 100 and resold as Bulkmatic de Mexico no number.


Coal Processing Corp.

3 was built by Lima on October 15, 1912, #2593. It was a standard gauge locomotive. In 1917 it became Tennga Lumber Co. 3 also at Conasauga, TN. In March 1919 it was sold to Southern Iron & Equipment Co. as #1466 at Atlanta, GA. On August 22, 1919, it was sold to W. M. Ritter Lumber Co.as SMRy 3 at Proctor, NC. It was later converted to 36" gauge and transferred to the Ritter property at McClure, VA. In 1938 it was sold to Coal Processing Corporation as 3 at Dixiana, VA. In 1960 it was sold to Roaring Camp & Big Timbers as 1.


Crewe Railroad Museum

606 was built by Lima in April, 1945, #8784, as United States Army 5846.  It was renumbered 606 in 1951 and was retired in 1969.
