Locomotives

 

Freight service was always a big factor in the BCER. There was a substantial amount of switching in the Vancouver area, plus the 65 mile run to Chilliwack which was built for the logging industry. After all other electric operations quit by 1958, a couple of the electric locomotives continued in service for several years until they were replaced by diesels.

BCER became part of the BCH&PA. Later the rail operations were sold as the Southern Ry of British Columbia. They are now controlled by the same people as Montana Rail Link.

 

952 was built by BCER in 1911.  It was rebuilt as plow S.103 in 1951.  It was sold to a private owner at Snoqualmie, WA in 1965.

960 was built by Alco-General Electric in July 1912, #51070, 3809, as Oregon Electric Ry. 22. When they dieselized, it became BCER 960 in June 1946.

961 was built by Alco-General Electric in June 1912, #51069, 3808, as OERy 21. It became BECR 961 in July 1946. It was sold to Edmonton Transit as 2001 in 1980 and donated to Edmonton Radial Ry Society in 1996 and sold to Fraser Valley Heritage Ry Society in 2012.  It was sold to Oregon Electric Ry Museum in 2015 and is restoring as OERy 21.

971 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in December 1912, #38911. It was scrapped in 1959.

972 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in December 1912, #38910. It was scrapped in 1959.

974 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in December 1912, #38913. It was scrapped in April 1959.

980 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in May, 1911, #33617. It was retired in May 1951 and rebuilt into plow S.102 in November of that year.

990 was built by Dick Kerr Co. in 1909 as 911. It was later renumbered 990 and scrapped in October 1957.

991 was built by Dick Kerr Co. in 1909 as 912. It was later renumbered 991 and scrapped in May 1951.

151, MP15DC was built by Electro-Motive in November 1975, #75626-1, FN 75626-1

381, SD38, was built by Electro-Motive in October 1971, #37816, FN 5779-1.

382, SD38-2, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1972, #71606-1,  FN 71606-1

383, SD38-2, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1972, #71606-2, FN 71606-2.

384, SD38-2, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1974, #74614-1, FN 74614-1.

900, SW900, was built by General Motors in June 1955, #A738, FN C189-1.

901, SW900, was built by General Motors in June 1956, #A892, FN C205-1.

902, SW900 was built by General Motors in June 1956, #A893, FN C205-2.

903, SW900, was built by General Motors in August 1957, #A1165.

904, SW900, was built by General Motors in August 1957, #A1166.

905, SW900, was built by General Motors in March 1958, #A1476.

906, SW900, was built by General Motors in March 1958, #A1477.

907, SW900, was built by General Motors in April 1958, #A1478.

931 is an SW900 built by General Motors in May 1956, #A846, as Midland Ry. Of Manitoba 1. It was sold to Hyman Michaels Co, who sold it to George R. Silcott Co., who sold it to S. G. Paikin Co., who sold it to BCH as 931 in 1969.

943, 70 Ton, was built by General Electric in May 1950, #30386.

1691, GP9u. was built by General Motors in August 1959, #A1723, FN C 260-8, as Canadian National 8832, Class DRS-17f.  It was rebuilt at Alstom-Ogden in February 1992 as 1691, Class DS-17, and sold to CIT Financial.  It was leased back as CP 1691 and retired on August 29, 2012.  It was sold for parts and scrapping on SRY.
