Wisconsin Trolley Lines

 

 

Appleton Street Ry.

1 was built by Pullman Car in 1896.

4 was built by Pullman Car in 1896.


Ashland Light Power & Street Ry.

486 was built by Stephenson Car Co in 1895 as Milwaukee Electric Ry & Light Co 486.  It was sold as ALPS 486 on June 30, 1900 and later renumbered 26.


Bay Shore Street Ry.

101 was built by McGuire-Cummings in 1909.  It was later merged as Wisconsin Public Service Co. 101.


Beloit Traction Co.

405 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1907.  It may have been renumbered.

409 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1909.  It was renumbered 420 in 1920 and scrapped in 1930.

411 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1909.  It was renumbered 422 in 1920 and scrapped in 1930.


Chicago & Wisconsin Valley Street Ry.

This line was planned to cover a large area in the middle part of Wisconsin  in 1910.  It started with 3 miles of city tracks in 1913 and never followed beyond.  It closed in 1922.

101 ex Milwaukee Electric Ry & Light Co.  It was purchased in 1913 and retired in 1922.

103 ex TMER&LCo.  It was purchased in 1913 and retired in 1922.

East Troy Electric Ry.

Janesville Traction Co.

27 was built by Niles Car Co in 1914.  It was scrapped in 1929.


Kenosha Electric Ry.

1st Kenosha Electric Ry was started to build in 1896 and built 3 miles of track.  But before they got cars it was abandoned and the tracks were removed.

2nd Kenosha Electric Ry was started in 1903 and opened with 4 miles and 7 cars in February 1904.  The cars were identified by color.  In 1907 6 more cars were added and apparently given numbers.  In 1912 the line was purchased by Milwaukee Electric Ry & Light Co and became a subsidiary company as Wisconsin Gas & Electric Co. 


Manitowoc & Northern Traction Co.

26 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1923, #1303.  It was transferred as Wisconsin Public Service Co 26 in 1927.


Milwaukee & Whitefish Bay Ry.

2 was built by Baldwin in 1888.

3 was built by Baldwin.

1, steam dummy trailer, was built by Brill in 1888.  It became The Milwaukee Electric Ry & Light Co 701, as smoking car, in 1894 and used on interurban lines.  In 1908 it was used as a sleeper on way department and renumbered 1 in 1912,  It was retired in 1925,

The Patton Electric System

This little company apparently had only one car.  There was good information from the Racine newspaper.


 River & Lakeshore City RR

The horse line was set up in 1860 and operated from Wisconsin Street at the river and south to Walker's Point bridge.  It was extended to Juneau to the army camp but it was cut in 1865.  It was extened to 4th on the south side.  They had to close in 1965 and sold to Milwaukee City Ry.  The cars and tracks were moved to the West Side in 1969.

Wisconsin Gas & Electric Co.

3, MTA701, was built by Yellow Coach in 1932.

8, MTA701, was built by Yellow Couch in 1932.

No number locomotive was built at Cold Spring in 1906 as Milwaukee Electric Ry & Light Co L1.  It was transferred to the Racine power plant where it had no lettering.  It was returned to Cold Spring in 1949 and one end was wrecked.  It was rebuilt and retired in December 1957.

No number switcher with no information.  A couple guys thought it was TM L2, but that was an error.  It was apparently scrapped in 1949 at Racine.

Wausau Street Ry.

1.

100 was built by American Car Co in 1897.  It was rebuilt in 1908 and scrapped in 1940.
