Don's Rail Photos
Ocean Shore RR
This railroad began in 1905 and was to be a double track electric railroad between San Francisco and Santa Cruz. Construction reached Mussel Rock when an earthquake on April 17, 1906, destroyed 4000 feet of the line and damaged much of the remainder. Plans were changed to build a single track steam road. Construction resumed in September 1906 and by 1907 the road reached Tobin. It finally reached Tunitas. Meanwhile track was laid north from Santa Cruz and finally reached Swanton leaving a 26 mile gap. Frequent landslides closed the railroad for periods up to 2 months. The railroad finally closed down in 1920. Much of the old right of way is now Highway 1.
6 was built by Baldwin in 1908, #32646. It was sold to Sierra RR in 1920 as 26 and later sold to Davies-Johnson Lumber Co as 26. It was scrapped in May 1939.
51 was built by OSRR in April 1907. It was rebuilt in 1919 and sold as Petaluma & Santa Rosa 504 in 1921. It was scrapped on March 15, 1947.
