Virginia Trolley Lines

 

Arlington & Fairfax Ry.

In 1891, the Washington Arlington & Fairfax built from Rosslyn, VA, to Fairfax via Vienna and Clarendon. In 1910, it was merged into the Washington & Virginia along with the Washington & Mt. Vernon. Bankruptcy occurred in 1924. The lines were split, and the local people organized the A&F to take over the line to Fairfax in 1927. Between 1936 and 1939, the line experimented with rail buses, but abandonment came in 1939.

214 was built by Jackson & Sharp in October 1906, #2612, as Washington Alexandria & Falls Church 114. In 1910 it became W-V 214, and it kept the same number when A&F split off. It was scrapped in 1937.

313 was built by Brill in June 1918, #20599, and kept the same number from the W-V. It was scrapped in 1937.

314 was built by Brill in June 1918, #20599, and kept the same number from the W-V. It was scrapped in 1937.

The rail buses were built by Evans in 1936.


Hampton & Langley Field Ry.

200 was built by Baldwin on November 30, 1912, #38835, as Connecticut Ry 1054, and completed by Westinghouse on January 25, 1913, as 029. It was renumbered 1054 in 1916 and sold to H&LFRy as 200 in 1937. It was sold in 1944 to Hagerstown & Frederick Ry as 10. It was sold for scrap in 1955.


Lynchburg Traction & Light Co.

34 was built by Jackson & Sharp in 1899, #1249.  It was sold as Five Mile Beach Electric Ry 34 in 1929 and sold to Branford Electric Ry Assn in 1946.  It has been restored as LT&L 34.

105 was built by Brill Car Co in July 1929, #22804.  It was sold as Virginia Electric & Power Co 105 in 1941 and later renumbered as 205.

109 was built by Brill Car Co in July 1929, #22804.  It was sold as VEPCo 109 in 1941 and later renumbered as 209.

110 was built by Brill Car Co in July 1929, #22804. It was sold as Roanoke Ry & Electric Co 56 in 1939.

Washington Alexandria & Mt. Vernon Electric Ry.

It bagan serving from Alexandria & Mt. Vernon in 1872 and completed to 14th St NW and B St NW in Washington in 1896.  In 1913 it was merged with Arlington & Falls Church Ry to make Washington-Virginia Ry but it was in receivership in 1923.  It was separated in 1927 but it was closed on January 18, 1932.

10 was built by Brill Car Co in 1896, #6722.
