Don's Rail Photos

NYW&B, known to its riders as "the Westchester" and "the Boston-Westchester", operated as an electric commuter railroad in the Bronx and Westchester County, New York from 1912 to 1937. It ran from the southernmost part of the Bronx, near the Harlem River to Mount Vernon. From there one line ran north, terminating in White Plains. The other went east, terminating in New Rochelle for a time before the eventual completion of the line to Port Chester in 1929. Throughout its construction and operations it was under the control of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, the "New Haven", until the bankruptcy of the New Haven in 1935.

A 4-mile section of this line is now the IRT Dyre Avenue Line in the New York City Subway system.

101 thru 195 were built by Pressed Steel Car Co.

01 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in August 1911, #37895.  It was renumbered 301 in 1928 and renumbered 701 in 1938.  It was transferred as New York New Haven & Hartford 0224, Class EY-2c, in 1944.

X1 was renumbered 401.
