Diesel Locomotives and Motor Cars

The Omaha road had its own passenger diesels. Some of us feel that the Erie built locomotives were as beautiful as the highly revered Alco PAs. I dare you to look at this and say that it doesn't have real class.

6001-A, Erie A, was built by General Electric in June 1947, #28586, Fairbanks Morse #L1090. It was retired in 1957 and scrapped in 1958.

6002-A, Erie A, was built by General Electric in May 1947, #28588, Fairbanks Morse #L1093. It became C&NW 6002-A in 1957 and was retired in 1959 and scrapped that year.

The Omaha Road had a group of F7s which were identical to the parent road's units, except for the numbering scheme.

6501-C, F7A, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1949, #8581, FN E1188-A3. It later became C&NW 6501-C in 1957. It was retired on October 15, 1958, and traded in to Electro-Motive January 1959.

6502-A, F7A, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1949, #8582, FN E1188-A4. It later became C&NW 6502-A in 1957. It was retired on January 3, 1959, and traded in to Electro-Motive.

6502-C, F7A, was built by Electro-Motive in December 1949, #8583, FN E1188-A5. It later became C&NW 6502-C in 1957. It was retired on January 7, 1959, and traded in to Electro-Motive.

6503-A, F7A, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1950, #10558, FN 6035-A1.  It later became C&NW 6503-A in 1957.  It was retired on December 19, 1959, and traded in to Electro-Motive in March 1960.

6504-A, F7A. was built by Electro-Motive in April 1950, #10560, FN 6035-A3. It later became C&NW 6504-A in 1957. It was retired on January 8, 1960, and traded in to Electro-Motive in March 1960.

6505-C, F7A, was built by Electro-Motive in April 1950, #10563, FN 6035-6. It later became C&NW 6505-C in 1957. It was retired on January 8, 1960 and traded in to Electro-Motive in March 1960..

Road switchers included the usual first generation models and some surprises.

150, H16-66, was built by Fairbanks Morse in February 1951. #16L278. It was later C&NW 150 in 1957 and retired in 1971. Disposition is unknown.

151, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1951, #14667, FN 6297-1.  It became C&NW 151 in 1957 and rebuilt at Oelwein on October 26, 1979, as CNW 4473.  It was retired in 1992 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply.

152, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1951, #14668, FN 6297-2. Despite the removal of the CMO lettering, it remained on the books as a CMO locomotive until it was rebuilt at Oelwein on November 6, 1979, as CNW 4472. It was retired in 1992 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply, who sold it to Econo-Rail as 4472.  It served on the Longhorn RR prior to 2000.

153, CP7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1951, #14669, FN 6297-3.  It later became C&NW 153 in 1957 and rebuilt at Oelwein on September 28, 1979.  It was retired in 1992 and sold as Econo-Rail 4475 in December 1993.

154, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1951, #14670, FN 6297-4. It was later C&NW 154 in 1957 and it was rebuilt at Oelwein on October 5, 1979, as 4474. It was retired in 1992 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply.  It was sold to Great Western Leasing as 4474 and was resold to SP Construction Services as SPCX 4474.  It was renumbered 501/4474 and then 501.

155. GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1951, #14671, FN 6297-5.  It later became C&NW 155 in 1957 and rebuilt at Oelwein on December 13, 1979, as 4471.  It was retired in 1991 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply Co who sold it to Econo-Rail as 4471 in December 1993.  It was then sold as Huntsman Polymers Corp P7.

156, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1951, #15672, FN 6297-6.  It later became C&NW 156 in 1957 and rebuilt at Oelwein on November 30, 1979, as 4470.  It was retired in 1991 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply who sold it to Econo-Rail as 4470 in December 1993.

157, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in June 1952, #16891, FN 6398-1.  It later became C&NW 157 and rebuilt at Oelwein on December 22, 1979, as 4469.  It was retired in 1992 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply Co.  It was sold as Columbus & Greenville 1000 and scrapped on April 20, 2009.

158, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in June 1952, #16892, FN 6398-2, as CMO 158.  It later became C&NW 158 and rebuilt at Oelwein on December 17, 1979, as 4468.  It was retired in 1992 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply Co.  It was sold as Chattooga & Chickamauga Ry 102.

159, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in June 1952, #16893, FN 6398-3,  It later became C&NW 159 and rebuilt at Oelwein on December 13, 1979, as 4466.  It was retired in 1992 and sold to Kramer Diesel Supply Co.  It was sold as Econo-Rail 4466.

160, GP7, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1952, #16894. It was later C&NW 160 in January 1957 and sold to Precision National on April 12, 1976. It was then sold to Amtrak as 769 in April 1976.

166, RS3, was built by Alco in July 1953, #80520. It was later C&NW 166 in 1957 and retired on March 3, 1978. It was sold to Erie Western RR as 1603 in June 1978 and it was resold to Prairie Trunk RR 1603. It later was sold by Azcon for probable scrap.

171, H16-66, was built by Fairbanks Morse in July 1953, #16L707. It was retired in May 1972 and disposition is unknown.

Switchers included a mixture of models. Here are several examples.

55, SW1, was built by Electro-Motive on October 22, 1940, #1194, FN E346-1. It was later C&NW 55 in 1957 and renumbered 1207 on June 28, 1968, and later 616 on September 21, 1971. It was retired March 22, 1978 and sold to Glen Monhart. It was donated for display at Oelwein, IA, in 1978.

59, VO660, was built by Baldwin in June 1945, #71573. It was later C&NW 59 in 1957 and later rebuilt by Electro-Motive in April 1959 as a 900 HP unit. It was renumbered 147 in October 1968. It was retired in October 1976 and sold to Precision National Corp.

69, S2, was built by Alco in May 1948, #75889. It became C&NW 69 in 1957 and scrapped in 1964.

90, S2, was built by Alco in October 1940, #69216. It became C&NW 90 in 1957 and traded in to Electro-Motive in January 1969.

94, H10-44, was built by Fairbanks Morse in December 1947, #L1171. It became C&NW 94 in 1957 and renumbered 1058 in December 1971. It was retired August 4, 1976, and disposition is unknown.

95, H10-44, was built by Fairbanks Morse in February 1948, #10L40. It became C&NW 94 in 1957 and renumbered 1062 in December 1971. It was retired on August 23, 1976, and scrapped at Oelwein in September 1976.

96, H10-44, was built by Fairbanks Morse in February 1948, #10L41. It became C&NW 96 in 1957 and renumbered 2nd 1063 in December 1971. It was retired on August 17, 1976, and scrapped at Oelwein in September 1976.

97, H10-44, was built by Fairbanks Morse in February 1948, #10L42. It became C&NW 97 in 1957 and renumbered 2nd 1066 in December 1971. It was retired on September 9, 1976, and scrapped at Oelwein.

98, H10-44, was built by Fairbanks Morse in February 1948, #10L43. It became C&NW 98 in 1957 and renumbered 2nd 1078 in December 1971. It was retired on February 1, 1976, and scrapped at Green Bay.

129, SW8, was built by Electro-Motive in September 1951, #14666, FN 6295-4. It became C&NW 129 in 1957 and retired August 23, 1975. It was sold to Chrome Crankshaft Co. on September 8, 1975.

2001 was built by Pullman under order #6144 and powered by Electro-Motive, May 1928, #271.

2002 was built by Pullman under order #6231 and powered by Electro-Motive, July 1929, #364. It was rebuilt as a baggage car and later burned.

2004 was built by Pullman under order #6231 and powered by Electro-Motive, July 1929, #366.

2005 was built by Pullman under order #6231 and powered by Electro-Motive, July 1929, #367.
