401 was built in June 1973, #73606-2, FN 73606-2.  It became BN 2256, Class GP38-2, in December 1980 and later BNSF 2256, Class GP38-2, in June 2000.

402 was built in June 1973, #73606-3, FN 73606-3.  It became BN 2257, Class GP38-2, in December 1980 and later BNSF 2257, Class GP38-2, in April 1998.
