This group of locomotives was built in four batches according to the information supplied by Peter Clark. The first, 1 thru 9, were built by Alco-Schenectady in 1911 as 271 thru 279. They were renumbered 701 thru 709, and then became 1 thru 9 after the 1938 general renumbering by classes. The next group was built by Shahokou in 1917 as 280 thru 285. They were renumbered 710 thru 715, and then became 10 thru 15 in 1938. The next group was built by Alco-Pittsburgh in 1918 as 295 thru 306. They were renumbered 716 thru 727. The last of these was built by Shahokou in 1918 and 1919 as 728 thru 736. These became the 28 thru 36. James Heffner's list indicates there were 178 ten-wheelers in all classes. 106 went to South Korea and 72 to North Korea in the 1947 partition.

700, Class TW5, was built by Baldwin in 1914.  It became a training device in the KNR school at Yongsan.  It is still being used.

TW5-10 was built by Shahokou in 1917 as 280.  It was renumbered 710 and renumbered TW5-10 in 1938.
