Illinois
Chicago Union Station was begun in 1874 and included PRR , Chicago Burlington & Quincy, Michigan Central, Chicago & Alton, and Chicago Milwaukee & St Paul but Michigan Central dropped out before it was opened. A new station was built beginning in 1913 and opened in 1925. It was completed in 1927. When I worked for REA, I spent a lot of time at the regional offices several blocks south of the station.
Effingham was served by Illinois Central and St. Louis, Vandalia and Terre Haute RR which became part of PRR. The building was built in 1924 and is used by Amtrak.
Greenville was 45 miles east of St Louis on the Vandalia line.
Maryland
Federalsburg was purchased and restored by Maryland & Delaware.
Ohio
Akron, OH, was a Union Station with Baltimore & Ohio and Erie.
