9000 was built in December 1977, #766068-1, was General Motors Co 9000.  It was released as UP 9000 on July 15, 1978, and renumbered 90 on May 28, 1985.  It was renumbered 954 on January 25, 1989, and retired on May 25, 2001.  It was sold to National Railway Equipment in March 2002 and rebuilt at Mount Vernon in June 2005 as Canadian Pacific 4523. a GP38-2.

9001 was built in March 1978, #766068-2.  It was renumbered 91 in June 1985 and renumbered 955 on June 2, 1989.  It was retired on May 25, 2001, and sold to NRE in March 2002.  It was rebuilt at Mount Vernon in June 2005 as CP 4524, a GP38-2.

9999 was built in March 1978, #766016-4, as Southern Pacific 7231, Class EF435-2.  It was assigned UP 5507 in September 1997 but not renumbered.  It was assigned UP 9879 in December 1999 but not renumbered.  It was renumbered 9999 in January 2000 and became UP 9999 on December 18, 2000.  It was retired on December 26, 2001, and sold to National Railway Equipment Co.  It was rebuilt by NRE as GP38-2 and sold as CP 4521 in August 2005.
