Houston Electric Co.
Houston trolleys did not see World War II. This made it one of the earliest of the large cities to loose its rail service. Even today, Houston is the largest city with no rail service of any kind. There is some hope with the recent light rail line. We will not enter the swamp of Houston politics here, but we will show you some of the attractive cars which they operated. I have only a small amount of data at this time.
6 was built by Stephenson Car Co in 1892 as Houston Heights Street Ry 3. It became HEStRy 6 in 1901.
38 was built by Brill Car Co in 1891 as 29, It was renumbered 38 in 1901,
102 was built by St. Louis Car in 1905, order #553.
178 was built by St. Louis Car in 1907, order #753A.
402 was built by American Car Co in 1924, order #1378. It was sold as Virginia Transit Co 484 in 1940 and retired in 1949.
408 was built by American Car Co in 1924, order #1378, It was sold as VTCo 488 in 1940 and retired in 1949.
410 was built by American Car Co in 1924, order #1378. It was sold as VTCo 490 in 1940 and retired in 1949.
418 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1927, order #1450. It was sent to St Louis Car Co and rebuilt as Birmingham Electric Co 402 in 1941.
421 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1927, order #1450. It was sent to St Louis Car Co and rebuilt as BECo 405 in 1941.
431 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1927, order #1450. It was sent to St Louis Car Co and rebuilt as BECo 415 in 1941.
432 was built by St Louis Car Co in 1927, order #1450. It was sent to St Louis Car Co and rebuilt as BECo 416 in 1941.
