Electric Locomotives

Few remember that B&O was also an electrified railroad for many years with locomotives pulling trains thru a tunnel at Baltimore. Here are a few of the locomotives which were used.

1, Class LE-1, was built by General Electric in 1895, #1413. It was retired in 1902. However, 2, GE 1895 #1414, was held for preservation after it was retired. In 1927, it was restored for the "Fair of the Iron Horse" and numbered 1. Apparently it did not survive the depression.

14, Class OE-2, was built by Alco-General Electric in March 1912, #50584, 3805. It was rebuilt in 1923. Between 1942 and 1948 it was numbered 154. It was retired on March 28, 1952, and sold for scrap to Luria Bros. Co. in November 1952.

15, Class OE-3, was built by Alco-General Electric in July 1923, #64125, 8946. Between 1942 and 1948 iw as number 155. It was retired on March 28, 1952, and sold for scrap to Luria Bros. Co. in November 1952.

17, Class OE-4, was built by Alco-General Electric in June 1927, #67225, 10341. Between 1942 and 1948 it was numbered 157. It was retired on March 28, 1952, and sold for scrap to Luria Bros. Co in November 1952.

18, Class OE-4, was built by Alco-General Electric in June 1927, #67226, 19342. Between 1942 and 1948 it was numbered 158. It was retired on March 28, 1952, and sold for scrap to Luria Bros. Co in November 1952.
