MIKA-3 2-8-2
This was the largest single class of locomotives in Korea. Peter Clark's information shows that the first group were built by KSK, Kawasaki, and Nippon between 1927 and 1938 and were numbered 1701 thru 1770. In the 1938 renumbering they became 1 thru 70 of Class MK3. Numbers 71 thru 287 were built by various builders between 1938 and 1944. After the war, numbers 288 thru 320 were built between 1945 and 1947 by various builders. James Heffner lists all the Mikes together and shows 131 going to South Korea and 292 to the North in the partition after the war. This indicates that less than one third would have been on the KNR. I will indicate the builder information I noted firsthand thru the list of photos.
129 and 161 were preserved, and there is a story about them on our Narrow Gauge Postlude page..
