4-4-2s
Perhaps we should let you know how these pages get started. When I was still emailing images, one that I sent was of Milwaukee Road 577 pulling some of the Class A Hiawatha engines to scrap. Since we no longer are limited to single images, I thought it might be fun to show the A's while in service. Then the thought came, "Why just show the A's when there were other 4-4-2's." And thus we have this report. But then we received a large amount of additional information.

The Class A Hiawatha engines were built by Alco in 3 orders. 1 and 2 were built in 1935, 3 in 1936, and 4 in 1937. They remained unchanged during their service except for the addition of red mars lights in 1947, and bumps and dents over the years. Here are the 4 of them.

And here is the photo which started this discussion and is a fitting close. 577 (L-2a, Baldwin January 1921, ex 8277 in June 1938) is seen leaving Milwaukee with several of the A's on their way to scrap in Chicago. A sad sight. And then the 577 was scrapped in December 1953.

When you pray, you only have to ask for two thing: You should ask for the light to see the Will of God, and you have to ask for the courage to be able to do the Will of God.
