Narrow Gauge Steam Locomotives
After getting on the internet I found a web site which was amazing since I had worked on steam locomotives on the Korean National RR in 1953 and 1954. It corrected some mistaken ideas I had, but also confirmed much of the information I had collected while in Korea. As an example, we referred to the narrow gauge as the Hokey. James D. Hefner reports the narrow gauge engines were classified as Hyouki. That's really close. I want to give due credit to James and the others who have made this page possible. Using his information, I present the following photos of KNR hokey steam locomotives.
HK6-7 was built by Hitachi in 1926.
HK6-9 was built by Hitachi in 1926.
HK6-12 was built by Hitachi in 1926.
HK7 locomotives were reported to have been 0-8-0T built by Hitachi in 1927. My photo of one shows it to be a 2-6-2T.
HK8-28 was built by Hitachi in 1934. It is at the Science Museum, Seoul.
HK8-60 was built by Nippon in 1934.
Class 10 locomotives were 2-8-0 built by Kisha in 1936.
HK11-12 was built by Nippon Sharyo in 1944. It is at the Yongin "Everland" theme park.
HK11-13 was built by Nippon Sharyo in 1944. It is at the KNR Museum.
HK11-14 was built by Nippon Sharyo in 1944. It was at the Ssangyong Mountain Resort and moved to Youngsanpoyeok, Namdung-Pu, Inchon.
HK-1 was built by Mitsubishi in 1952 as United States Army 1. It later became KNR HK-1 locomotive and is at the Childrens Grand Park in Seoul.
HK-7 was built by Nippon in 1950, #1562. as USA 7. It became KNR HK-7 and is in a park in Incheon.
HK-8 was built by Mitsubishi in 1952, as USA 7. It became KNR HK-8 and is at Heuksan / Sinan-gun Joennam.
