Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe

General Electric U30CG Diesels

 

The last passenger locomotives purchased by the Santa Fe were the U30CG's from General Electric in 1968. They had only a short term pulling passenger trains since Amtrak was close behind their construction. Conversion to freight service didn't help much as they only lasted a total of 12 years.

400, Class 400, was built in November 1967, #36346.  The steam generator was removed in 1969 and renumbered 8000, Class 8000, in April 1970.  It was repainted in June 1972 and traded to General Electric in 1980.

401, Class 400, was built in November 1967, #36347.  The steam generator was removed in 1969 and renumbered 8001, Class 8000, in April 1970.  It was repainted in June 1972 and traded to General Electric in 1980.

402, Class 400, was built in November 1967, #36348.  The steam generator was removed in 1969 and renumbered 8002, Class 8000, in April 1970.  It was repainted in June 1972 and traded to General Electric in 1980.

403, Class 400, was built in November 1967, #36349.  The steam generator was removed in 1969 and renumbered 8003, Class 8000, in April 1970.  It was repainted in June 1972 and traded to General Electric in 1980.

404, Class 400, was built in December 1967, #36350.  The steam generator was removed in 1969 and renumbered 8004, Class 8000, in April 1970.  It was repainted in June 1972 and traded to General Electric in 1980.

405, Class 400, was built in December 1967, #36351.  The steam generator was removed in 1969 and renumbered 8005, Class 8000, in April 1970.  It was repainted in June 1972 and traded to General Electric in 1980.
